Flying Ant Problems in Whitefield, Prestwich and Swinton.
Flying ants are the dread of many houses in summer months leaving many people to dread the summer and the annual flying ants invasion which they realise the summer will herald
Only the unfortunates who have suffered it will realise the true horror of flying ants in their own homes.
Having an infestation of basic wingless ants is bad enough but when they go through their yearly mating phase the position can become intolerable.
Ants will form colonies under the floors and in the wall cavities of our homes and these colonies will continue for many years if left untreated becoming progressively more annoying every year.
Our homes are warm and dry and provide the perfect places for a thriving ant colony; even solid hard floor is not a problem to ants.
Our house heating systems keeps their metabolism even in the depths of winter and my earliest ant treatment was on my birthday, which falls in January!
Ants like a sandy soil and there are plenty areas in Lancashire, Cheshire and Manchester which produce more ant infestations than most, Southport, Blackpool, Bolton, Sale & Altrincham come to mind as hot ant areas.
Unfortunately it is during their mating phase that they are most irksome. Here in Lancashire, Cheshire and Manchester this tends to be pretty regularly around the middle to end of July.
Ants mate on the wing and around mid-summer the colony produces winged immature Queens and flying males which in nature would fly off and mate whilst airborne. Many thousands of these flying ants are produced by each and nests tend to time their production so that they mate with ants from nearby colonies.
Normally this process starts after a couple of days of hot, dry weather and will often continue for about a week although smaller releases will extend throughout most of June, July & August.
Unfortunately when the nest is under the floor of the property the results can be horrifying, literally thousands of winged ants are produced into the lower rooms, aiming for windows as they head for the light.
This can be extremely distressing for some people leading to extreme emotional trauma to the level that people learn to loath the summertime and have actually left their house to escape the plague of ants which they know will inevitably appear each summer.
The wet summers of recent years has meant that ant jobs were down on previous years but ants seem to have a way of catching up and 2010 might be a particularly troublesome year.
Most people who have this problem attempt for DIY solutions with potions from hardware stores etc but mostly these efforts fail as they are not getting to the heart of the matter which is the nest itself, tucked safely in the cavity wall or sub-floor area.
Luckily for a lot of people help.
At Harrier Pest Control and Prevention (subject to satisfactory site) we are able to cure this problem and issue an extendable 3 year guarantee.
The process which is carried out mainly from the outside of the house, is totally safe for animals and children and produces no smell, involves drilling little holes into the cavity walls of the property, not unlike a damp-course injection and blowing a long lasting insecticide into the cavity wall under pressure.
This forms an impenetrable barrier across which the ants cannot go and together with a precautionary internal spray treatment (if deemed necessary) will slowly bring the problem under control.
The holes, which are only 8mm in diameter are left open so it is an easy matter of topping up the cavities every 3 to extend the life of the guarantee in 3 year blocks.
This procedure is best done out in the early spring however it can be done at any time of year.
As a very limited time offer before our busy period begins we are offering 25 percent off the usual price until May 30 2010. Whilst we normally cover the whole of Lancashire, Cheshire and Greater Manchester, we are willing to venture further afield but this will be at extra cost.
